What are Meta Tags?

Meta Tagging, literally it's the data about the data on your website. Regardless of how your site is constructed, meta data are the fundamental building blocks of search. Meta data can be your site's description listings on search engines, directories, portals, etc. Meta Tagging doesn't affect your "viewable" site, so many designers and programmers simply leave out Meta Tagging. Meta Tags are the first step in helping search engines notice your web site.

What is a Search Engine?

A search engine is simply a system of databases that stores massive data points about web sites. Data points are arranged in a variety of ways, and different search engines employ their own unique methods for retrieving or -ranking- web sites based on the search terms or keywords you give them.

Crawlers, Spiders or Robots are programs that search engines use to help them keep their databases up-to-date with the most current web site listings.
